Frequently Asked Questions
What is kallback®?
Kallback is the original call re-origination company and premier international
discount telecommunications provider, offering connections of superior
clarity and reliability at a discount of up to 90% in comparison to the
rates of local telephone companies, calling card services and hotels.
What is Call Re-Origination?
Call re-origination is a method through which callers anywhere in the
world are able to access a U.S. telephone line and rates far lower than
those available in most foreign countries. Callers place a 'trigger call'
to a computer in the U.S. and hang up after the first ring, thereby avoiding
a charge for the international call. The computer immediately returns the
call, providing a U.S. telephone line. The caller can then place a call
to anywhere in the world.
How low are kallback rates?
Kallback offers the lowest rates available anywhere for most of your
international connections. Our customers save between 50% and 90% on their
international phone bills by using Kallback instead of local providers,
hotels, pay phones, and U.S. calling card services. For example: a 10 minute
call from Tokyo to New York through AT&T's USA Direct would cost $16.10.
The total Kallback charge is $3.60 which is a discount of 70% off the AT&T
rate.
How do I use kallback?
You are given a personal 'trigger number' that is used to initiate
a call. Simply dial the number, let it ring once, and hang up
you are not charged for the incomplete call. The Kallback computer instantly
returns your call, providing you with a U.S. telephone line for placing
multiple calls at low Kallback rates.
How many service programs does kallback
offer?
You can choose from three flexible Kallback service programs:
1) Standard Trigger Numbers are used to receive calls at a single,
permanent location. If you do not plan to use
Kallback while traveling, Kallback suggests this service since it's
the most economical of all Kallback
services.
2) Traveler Trigger Numbers are designed for traveling customers who
wish to change their Kallback location
and need to be asked for by name. If you plan to use Kallback when
you travel, please request this service
on the application form. An additional $5 per month maintenance fee
is charged for this service.
3) Personalized Trigger Numbers ask for Kallback customer by name at
the designated location. This service is
utilized by customers in corporate offices with PBX systems where multiple
line users need to be identified
by name.
Does kallback offer voice prompts in languages
other than English?
Yes. Kallback offers the flexibility of voice prompts and messages
in 13 languages. When traveling, the voice prompt can be in both English
and the language you choose. You can always change the language in which
the voice prompt is to be aired.

account.
Is touch-tone service required?

$10 and at most electronic stores), Kallback's innovative Voice Recognition
Technology or an KallNet Dialer.
Can I keep my current long-distance carrier?
Yes. Use Kallback for international calls where it will save you money;
use your current carrier for domestic long-distance calls.
Is kallback service legal?
Yes. A June 1995 FCC ruling stated that Kallback operates completely
within the domestic and international laws. The FCC has since granted Kallback
authority to operate as a common carrier in providing telephone resale
services between the United States and international destinations.
Can I use kallback to call any country in the world?
Well, almost. Kallback can reach everywhere except North Korea and
Somalia.
Can I use kallback for faxes and modems?
Yes. Kallback service can be used for transmissions by both fax and
modem.
In what time increments does kallback bill calls?
Kallback charges for calls in increments of 6 seconds.
How are calls billed to my kallback account?
You receive a monthly statement itemized by trigger number.
I have several lines in my office but they are very busy.
Frequently when I trigger a call, by the time kallback calls me back my phone line is busy.
Request Kallbacks "virtual hunt group". If you are in a country where you have several individual lines but
they do not "hunt" automatically; that is, if one line is busy and the calls do not automatically roll over to the next
line, you need our "virtual hunt group". Give us all the phone numbers in your office and the order in which you
would like us to try them. When you trigger a call, Kallback will call your first location number. If no-one answers
(or the phone is busy) we will call the second location number 45 seconds later. If the second attempt is not successful,
the third and fourth attempts each will occur 90 seconds apart.
Some customers use this as a 'follow me' service so that we try them first at their office location.
If that isn't successful we try a secondary location such as their home. If that isn't successful we try their mobile phone etc.
Keep in mind that this will not work if you have an answering machine. If on the first attempt we reach an answering machine,
we will consider the call completed and will not try again.
You claim to call me back in a few seconds but my return call can take a several minutes.
Kallback attempts to call you back immediately. Frequently on this first attempt we reach a busy signal because either you
have not hung up yet or even though you have hung up, the local phone company still shows that the line is busy. We then wait 45
seconds before making another attempt. If that attempt is unsuccessful (and it could be for any one of a number of reasons, but
primarily that all circuits to your country are busy) we wait 90 seconds between the 2nd and 3rd attempts and the 3rd and 4th attempts.
Thus if you have triggered a call, be patient. Wait at least 5 minutes before triggering a call AGAIN, as we will keep trying automatically.
